amongfriendsThe Among Friends Program is for youth ages 13-22.  The program promotes community inclusion for all youth through creating opportunities for young people to socialize and work together to build community capacity for inclusion.  The Among Friends Program activities include the following:

  • Workshops or learning events for youth, with and without disabilities, that focus on building skills and competencies in various areas of life.
  • Facilitating the development and creation of Circles of Friends in schools.
  • Opportunities to explore interests in the arts in inclusive settings.
  • Events and activities that bring young people together in social and fun activities that help youth to broaden the number of peers in their age that they know and enjoy spending time with.
  • Opportunities for youth to volunteer and make a contribution to their community; and
  • Connections with youth organizations in Winnipeg that are established to promote inclusion of youth from diverse backgrounds who are involved in building welcoming communities.

 

Circle of Friends

Create Art, Dance or Act!

 

With help from the Manitoba Marathon, teens aged 13-22 can participate in INCLUSIVE art classes free of charge!  Participants will also be eligible to enter their works into a prestigious art show (date TBD).  This is an opportunity to explore interests, meet new people, learn from each other and to develop skills....more

 

Summer Fun

 

SUMMER FUN AMONG FRIENDS provides support for youth with intellectual disabilities, ages 13-22, to participate in one week of activities around the city.  The program usually starts on the second week of July and runs for 8 weeks, ending on the last week of August.  Space is limited and the registration deadline is usually on the last working day of May... more

To register for Among Friends activities, please ensure that you have registered with Among Friends.  Click here to print the Among Friends Registration form.  Please return the completed form to Community Living Winnipeg, 1-120 Maryland Street, Winnipeg, MB  R3G 1L1.  Once received, we will contact you to set up a meeting.

 

Volunteer Options

 

We are in search of youth volunteers age 13-22.  Volunteers will develop an understanding of disability issues, gain valuable knowledge and experience for a career portfolio, improve communication and leadership skills, meet new people in a challenging environment, and become role-models for other youth, and other community members.

 

Donate & Help Us Grow

 

The Among Friends Program depends on your donation.  You can donate to the following:  Among Friends - General Funding, Art Among Friends, Circles of Friends, Monthly Leisure Activities, Spring Break, Summer Fun, Family Events and/or Volunteer Support.  To donate via mail, please make cheque payable to Community Living Winnipeg and mail to Community Living Winnipeg, 1-120 Maryland Street, Winnipeg, MB  R3G 1L1.  To donate online, please click here and you will be taken to the Canada Helps website.  Donations of $100 or more will be sent a photograph of the magic they made happen.  All donors will receive a charitable tax receipt.... more
